Shared Mental Model Scale published in the Korean Journal of Industrial and Organizational Psychology

A three-factor scale (Awareness, Communication, Execution) validated with 5,137 employees in manufacturing and IT.

"Development and Validation of the Shared Mental Model Scale" by Lab Director Byung Jun Kang has been published in the Korean Journal of Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Vol. 39, No. 2, pp. 267–285 (doi:10.24230/kjiop.v39i2.267-285).

Existing scales, mostly developed overseas, split shared mental models into task and teamwork dimensions. This study proposes a three-factor structure suited to Korean industrial settings: Awareness (a clear view of the team's mission, individual goals and roles), Communication (open discussion, information sharing and mutual respect) and Execution (proactive work, use of resources and overcoming obstacles).

Using data from 5,137 employees in manufacturing and IT, the study confirmed the structure statistically and found that all three factors correlate positively with team effectiveness.

The framework underpins the ACE Team Leadership assessment on the Global Assess platform, which measures Awakening, Communication and Execution in teams.
